One cold Thursday morning last week, I received a text message from the Amazing Virga. It said that s/he missed me and Starbucks and if s/he could visit us on Sunday afternoon to reminisce the things we did many lifetimes ago. Sunday afternoon because s/he still had a series of shows in Bayabas, Aras-asan, and San Francisco.
We swapped text messages and played catch-up because we hadn't met for 25 years. Images flashed like lighting as messages flew and boomed with thunderous laughter.
Then came Sunday. S/he said s/he'd be late as s/he left San Francisco after lunch. I prepared some snacks, all specialties of mine: binignit and maja. The binignit s/he made special mention as it was the thing we always cooked when we were kids. No time to bake my decadent choco cake, I sent somebody to buy cheese cake in Tandag instead.
S/he texted again that s/he'd be late. From snacks to dinner, I thought. I texted back that I wasn't up to doing last minute marketing in Tandag as it was raining hard and I just whipped up what I could. S/he said fine; all s/he wanted was good company and some laughs.
S/he arrived at past 8:00 with Edward (the PA), Maritess Patrimonio-Luna and Trisha.
From that moment on, it was pure fun! Starbucks and Maritess were bitter to the end because the Amazing Virga has a cleavage more defined than theirs combined.
We called it a night at 1:00 AM.

Eddie turned Amazing Virga has been a good performer ever since I was a child. S/he has been a student of my mother when s/he was still studying high school in Gamut. Every Araw ng Tago, each school must have a night presentation and that’s where I saw her/him performing doble-kara and doing stage drama-comedy play at Tago Gym.
Eddie-Amazing Virga is a good hair stylist too. Every summer, during my elementary days, s/he used to stay at Iya Panti’s house, her/his auntie, next beside lola and lolo Fidel’s after arriving coming from Manila. Parents along with their kids at Laurente St. in Tago would go to have a hair cut on her/him because many had known her/him that s/ he had been a make- up and a hair stylist of some local celebrities. As a little child then, one thing I noticed about her/his was her/his tantalizing blue eyes and her/his wavy blond hair every time s/he visits Tago. And as s/he's walking on the streets many people would glance at her because they were tricked by who this American blond girl is.
Eddie-Amazing Virga is a very accommodating and easy person to deal with. S/he is the person we must be proud of not only for being a true blood Tagon-on but for her/his struggles in molding her/his talent just to support her/his poor family. And if s/he is given a chance to invite and support her/him to render a show for one night only on our fiesta celebration is a good inspiration to everybody especially to those young aspirants who seek for a brighter future on their respective fields.
