SISTER MERCEDITAS O. ANG, SPC - Tagon-on: New President of SPU Surigao
Sister Merceditas Orozco Ang, SPC, a native of Tago, Surigao del Sur, will be installed as the eighth president of the prestigious St. Paul University Surigao (St. Paul University System), formerly San Nicolas College, Surigao City, on June 19, 2006, 9:00 a.m. at the San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral.
Sister Merceditas, an alumna of Purisima School (Batch ’79), Tago, Surigao del Sur, finished her Bachelor of Science in Psychology (1984) in Siliman University, Dumaguete City, as magna cum laude; Bachelor of Laws (1988) in San Beda College, Manila, where she was a dean’s lister; M.A. in Educational Management (2002) in De La Salle University, Manila, with high distinction; and Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Management (2005), with high distinction and with outstanding dissertation award. Her professional experiences include being a legal officer of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (1989) and of the Central Bank of the Philippines (1991); Vice-President of then San Nicolas College (1998); Executive Officer of St. Paul College, Pasig (2000), and Vice-President of St. Paul University Manila (2005).
This tagon-on has published articles in the Paulinian Tribune, the Philippine Echoes, Asian Institute of Management Journal for Business and Development and Development and the Faculty Formation Forum. She has also been invited as speaker/lecturer in the SPC Educators’ Congress and in other conventions and conferences of administrators and educators.
Aside from being a school administrator and lecturer, she is also a teacher. She has taught Obligations and Contracts, Negotiable Instruments, Research, Curriculum Development, Christian Morality, and Psychology of Learning. As community servant, she taught catechism to children enrolled in public schools, rendered community extension services in depressed areas, and engaged in parish activities and social justice concerns. She is a member of the Center for Servant Leadership, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Psychological Association of the Philippines and St. Paul University System.
